Interdepartmental policy framework on Dutch historic ship remains and shipwreck sites abroad

Dutch underwater heritage policy is concerned both with geographical borders and the borders between traditional policy areas. A variety of governmental departments and services in the Netherlands and abroad are therefore involved in designing and implementing this policy, including the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Finances, and Education, Culture and Science.

As owner and manager of Dutch waters, the government plays an important part in maritime heritage care. The RCE works together with partners in order to establish sustainable heritage management on an international level. A series of protocols has been published in order to achieve this, amongst which this interdepartmental policy framework.
