Private owners of a monument (heritage building) that serves a residential purpose on Bonaire, St Eustatius or Saba can request a subsidy for costs incurred in maintaining their monument. The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) processes the subsidy application.

Aims of the scheme

The subsidy scheme for the preservation of monumental residences in the Caribbean Netherlands 2026 is a pilot project. The scheme has two aims:

  • To provide financial support to private owners of monumental residences in maintaining their monument.
  • To gain practical experience in providing subsidies for maintaining monuments in the Caribbean Netherlands.

Application period and granting subsidies

The application period is from 1 September to 30 September 2026 (AST). Before that time, you can prepare your application by compiling all the necessary information and documents. After receiving a decision to grant a subsidy (who will receive subsidies will be decided no later than the end of February 2027), a subsidy recipient has two years to carry out the work. No subsidies will be granted for work that was started or completed before a decision was reached regarding the subsidy application.
