UNESCO World Heritage
UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, adopted the World Heritage Convention in 1972. The Netherlands ratified the Convention in 1992, one of 193 states to have done so. The World Heritage List is compiled by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO.
Obligations
Like all parties to the World Heritage Convention, the Netherlands has committed itself to proper conservation of its World Heritage sites. Every six years we inform the UNESCO World Heritage Committee about what we have done to implement the convention. We also describe the current state of conservation of our sites and what has been to done to preserve their special universal value for humanity.
