New orientation

This lavishly illustrated book builds on the collective experience of the instructors of and participants in the Urban Heritage Strategies course, taking the reader on a tour of eight cities with historical ties to the Netherlands: Accra, Jaffna, Moscow, Paramaribo, Pretoria, Pulicat, Recife and Surabaya. The book explains how a city’s existing historical qualities may be put to good use. On the basis of the specific situation in each city, the economic significance of cultural heritage is clarified, as are the possibilities and limitations as regards the design challenges of the future.
