A German coastal defense seen from all sides

The Atlantikwall (Atlantic Wall) is a defensive line of over 5,000 km built along the Western European coast during World War II. The scale of the Atlantikwall and the ideology that inspired it serve as a lasting reminder of the scope and comprehensiveness of the occupation of Europe.

This publication is also available in Dutch: Visie Atlantikwall

The Vision for the Atlantikwall addresses the Dutch section of this line and recommends a careful, integrated approach to the remaining remnants, approached as a system, with preservation as the guiding principle. To this end, coordinated heritage and environmental policies are recommended by all government bodies. Further knowledge development on the functioning of the Atlantikwall during and after World War II is also essential.

This vision is intended for heritage professionals in and outside the government, and other interested parties involved with military heritage.
