Medieval villages
The results from the archaeological excavations between 2005 and 2015 were analysed and compared for this research. The study shows that similar processes form the base of medieval development of the villages and that the available models are correct, in this respect. There is also a discussion on the large regional differences. And finally, a number of recommendations is made to further the research of medieval village formation.
The archaeological data do not provide enough insight. Additional historical-geographical research is necessary, combined with research on medieval land ownership. Furthermore, the research of medieval village formation would benefit immensely from specific research frameworks on a municipal level, and from continuity in research.
