NAR 76: Elsloo-Koolweg Revisited. Science-based perspectives on the burials and grave goods of the Linear Bandkeramik burial ground of Elsloo-Koolweg
This book presents the results of the ‘Elsloo-Koolweg revisited, reinvestigating the LBK burial ground of the Elsloo-Koolweg’ project. This burial site was originally excavated in 1959-1960 and was revisited with the help of new insights and science-based techniques by the Archaeological Research Leiden (ARCHOL) and the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO).
During the time of research all categories for findings were re-analysed and reinterpreted with the contemporary knowledge and techniques. New information that came from researching the cemetery established a new vision that focused on identifying male and female graves and aspects of hierarchy and kinship. The research shows that burial rituals were part of widely shared convictions that have supra-regional validity. And the community of the Linear Bandkeramik in Elsloo made their own interpretations of these shared convictions, traditions, and rituals.
