The project CHARTER – European Cultural Heritage Skills Alliance, together with the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE), would like to invite you to the first CHARTER symposium in theNetherlands. Together we will discuss the future of cultural heritage, the role that education plays in it and its connection to the heritage sector.
CHARTER is a European research project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the EU, that aims to bridge the gap between education and the professional heritage field. The project will lead to proposals for training courses and curricula with new skills for heritage professionals. CHARTER wants to contribute to the sustainable protection and strengthening of European cultural heritage. The project aims to find answers to questions such as: How do we train young professionals to raise awareness of the importance of cultural heritage as a solution to sustainability issues? And how can we ensure that there are sufficient specialists such as gardeners and heritage carpenters?
The research project has now been running for three years, during which relevant insights and results have been obtained thanks to the active participation of partners and stakeholders throughout Europe. This participatory approach also characterizes this symposium: in addition to an introduction to the CHARTER project and the presentation of the first results. Together with you, Erasmus University (the Dutch CHARTER partner) would like to reflect on the Dutch heritage sector and the connection to heritage education. Under the guidance of experts, the gaps and needs in the professional field of the heritage sector are examined during an active workshop.
CHARTER conducts research in all participating countries in Europe, including the Netherlands. The workshop during the symposium is therefore a small-scale laboratory that provides inspiration for the formulation of CHARTER's European strategy for the heritage sector. Furthermore, insights are obtained regarding the measures and changes in education and policy that are needed to boost the sector. The results of the workshop form part of the programme of the general CHARTER meeting that will take place in June 2024 in Rotterdam.
