Since 2010, the International Programme for Maritime Heritage of the Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) of the Netherlands has made an effort to protect Dutch maritime heritage worldwide. Without responsible management, this heritage with over 1600 wrecks would disappear. After years of research, knowledge exchange, cultural diplomacy, training, in situ protection and overall management it is time to reflect on our progress and review our results with our partners and stakeholders. We have asked a few colleagues from different parts of the world to reflect on this work from their point of view

In this expert session Zainab Tahir (Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in Indonesia), Hans van Tilburg (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, USA) and Lesa la Grange (SAHRA, South Africa) will give a presentation under the general theme ‘Different views on the significance of Underwater Cultural Heritage Management’. We would like you to join in the discussion by chat and reflect with us on the results of the last decade of underwater and maritime heritage management organized in separate programmes within the Dutch government.

The results of our discussion will be included in the final report of the Programme for International Maritime Heritage and will help shape the future of underwater cultural heritage management at the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands. Registration for the expert session is required.
