Plastics in museum collections need special care. They often show problems during storage and exhibition, such as discolouration, efflorescence, tackiness and crumbling. To anticipate problems and preserve plastic containing objects under appropriate conditions, identification of the plastics is crucial.
Een van de nieuwe tools van de Rijksdienst is de Modern Paint Damage Atlas, een fenomenologische schadeatlas voor objecten van moderne schilderkunst. Deze is ontwikkeld om tegemoet te komen aan een behoefte van restauratoren/conservatoren om problemen in schilderijen beter te leren herkennen, zodat de urgentie voor behandeling en/of een behandelingsrichting beter kan worden ingeschat.
De tool is opgezet onder de vleugels van het Programma Erfgoed Moderne Tijd (2015-2018) en binnen het Europese JPI project ‘Cleaning of Modern Oil Paints’, dat uitgevoerd is tussen 2015 en 2018. De verftool geschreven in het Engels en is online te vinden op verf.tool.cultureelerfgoed.nl. Hij is compleet op één onderdeel na, namelijk de beslisboom (‘identification’), die de komende maanden afgemaakt zal worden.
