Analysis showed the site at Zeewijk to have been an extensive Late Neolithic year-round settlement.
Large permanent settlement
Finds during the 1993 excavations at the Zeewijk-Oost site included a wooden post. This turned out to belong to an unusually large structure, 22 metres long and 7 metres wide. Postholes found at the Zeewijk-West site led to the identification of five potential house plans. On the basis of these results, Zeewijk was classified as a large permanent settlement. This report is a compilation of the results of additional research carried out at this settlement.
